Ireland is very well connected with airlines serving many cities in the USA, Canada, Europe and the UK

Dublin Airport - Served by all major airlines with direct flights to USA, Canada, Europe and more.

Shannon Airport - Direct flights to USA, Canada and Europe.

Ireland West Airport - Direct flights to UK and Europe.

There are 5 international airports in Ireland but the largest and often most convenient are Shannon and Dublin. Whilst Shannon is closer to the West of Ireland, Dublin is the biggest airport and as such has more flight options. Both airports have a good public transport network. Ireland West (Knock) Airport is also a great option for guests arriving from Europe and the UK.

Public Transport

Ireland has an extensive public transport system and underneath you will find the options to get you to the starting locations on bus or train.

Getting to Galway from Dublin or Dublin Airport

Galway is on the west coast and a 2.5 hour drive to Dublin Airport.

There are 2 public transport options for getting from Dublin airport to Galway.

The easiest and most popular is with a bus company called City link. Buses leave every hour from Dublin Airport or Dublin city centre. It is fast, good value and the buses are always new and comfortable with free Wi-Fi. The buses finish in Galway City centre. If your flight is delayed, City Link will honour your purchased ticket with the next available departure.

Alternatively, you can travel from Dublin city centre to Galway by train with Irish Rail which is a pleasant amble through the Irish country-side, however it is relatively expensive and involves a transfer from Dublin airport to Heuston train station in the city centre. If you want to go with this option be sure to book online in advance. It is much cheaper than buying tickets at Heuston train station in Dublin. The train station in Galway is called Céannt Station and is located in the city centre.

Our shop is a pleasant 15 minute stroll through the pedestrian streets of Galway from the Bus/Train station. Alternatively it is a 5 minute taxi ride and should cost less than €10.

Getting to Galway from Shannon Airport

Shannon Airport is about 85km south of Galway. The Airport serves many US, UK & mainland EU airports with Ryan AirAer Lingus and FlyBE.

There is a direct link from Shannon Airport to Galway city with the national bus service called Bus Éireann(route 51). At the time of writing there are 12 departure times from the Airport to Galway City Centre, every hour (departing at 5 minutes to the hour) at 7:55am to 8:55pm . Please refer to the Bus Eireann website for up to date departure times.

Getting to Galway from Ireland West/Knock Airport

Ireland West Airport is about 90km north of Galway. The Airport serves many UK airports and an ever increasing number of mainland EU airports with Ryan AirAer Lingus and FlyBE.

There is a direct link from Ireland West Airport to Galway city 5 times a day with the national bus service called Bus Éireann (route 64). At the time of writing there are 6 departure times from the Airport to Galway City Centre at 6:52am, 8:55am, 10:55am, 12:55pm, 2:50pm & 4:55pm. Please refer to the Bus Eireann website for up to date departure times.

Getting to Oughterard

There are 2 bus options for getting to Oughterard from Galway, the 923 Citilink bus and the 419 Bus Eireann bus.

Getting to Ennis from Shannon Airport

Shannon Airport is about 85km south of Galway. The Airport serves many US, European and UK airports with regular Ryanair and Aer Lingus flights.

There is a direct link from Shannon Airport to Ennis with the national bus service called Bus Éireann. This bus takes 30 minutes.  Please refer to their website for up to date departure times.

Getting to/from Westport 

Westport is linked to Dublin City Centre Heuston Station via train. Train tickets can be purchased on Irish Rail.ie

Getting to/from Clifden

The City Link bus serves Clifden with many daily departures to Galway and onwards to Dublin/Dublin airport.

Getting to/from Doolin

Bus Eireann provides buses between Galway and Doolin on Route 350.

Getting to/from Achill

There is a regular bus from Achill Sound back to Westport with Bus Eireann (route 450)

Getting to/from Killarney

Visit Irish Rail  for a daily train timetable from Dublin to Killarney. From Dublin Airport you can easily hop on a public bus from outside the terminal to Heuston train station in Dublin City.  There are also direct buses between the airport and Killarney, however the journey time for this option is approximately 4 – 5 hours.
